Pure gold does not come cheap, and neither does today’s newest release from the United States Mint. Launching at noon ET, the 2026-W $50 Proof American Gold Buffalo is struck from one ounce of .9999 fine 24-karat gold and features one-year-only Semiquincentennial elements — the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral "250."

Introduced in 2006 as the Mint’s first 24-karat gold coin series, the American Buffalo lineup includes both bullion and proof versions. Today’s proof coin is made for collectors, with mirror-like fields, frosted design elements and sharper visual contrast than its bullion counterpart.
