The Collection Continues
May 9, 2026
The Monnaie de Paris released the second wave of commemoratives in its series dedicated to The Lord of the Rings trilogy on May 5. The most recent set includes three silver proof €10 coins; one silver proof €20 coin; and gold proof €5, €50, and €200 coins.
The obverses of the three €10 coins pay homage to each of the Lord of the Rings movies: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. On the first coin, Gandalf the Grey leads the Fellowship of the Ring out of the Shire. Saruman and Aragorn appear on the second €10. The final €10 issue, as well as the €50 gold coin, depict Sauron’s eye and Frodo with the One Ring. The silver €20 and €200 gold coins feature the One Ring in the center of the obverse, with Gollum, Frodo, Gandalf, and the Witch-King of Angmar in the background, and selective color applied on the silver €20. The €5 gold coin depicts the sword Anduril, with elements of the Gondor coat of arms.
