British artist Tom Charter, the “Pigeon Picasso,” has always admired the common city bird, which serves as the muse for his body of illustrations and designs. When the Bank of England announced that the public can vote on the wildlife that will appear on its new series of bank notes, Charter says, “I saw people were talking about the beautiful birds like the robin or raven, but thought, hang on a minute—there’s a bird that lives with us every single day. They’re urban wildlife. They still deserve a spot as well.”
