The Monnaie de Paris reimagines the Libertas Americana medal, originally designed by Benjamin Franklin and engraved by Augustin Dupré, on a new release. In the original design, Minerva, representing France, protects an infant United States from a lion. On the 2026 version, Lady Liberty now represents the United States, and Minerva stands to her left. The two figures hold the flame of liberty, and the legend LIBERTAS POPULUSQUE UNIVERSALIS (“freedom and universal people”) appears above, and 4 JULI 2026 is below. Liberty’s bust appears on the reverse with a staff bearing a liberty cap on her right shoulder, and LIBERTAS AMERICANA is inscribed above.
