An exceedingly rare aureus of a Roman rebel led more than a dozen other coins certified by NGC Ancients that realized at least six figures in a pair of NAC auctions.

A gold coin of an obscure, ill-fated Roman usurper led the way in a pair of elite auctions presented by Numismatica Ars Classica (NAC) that included many ancient coins certified by NGC®. Realizing about $1.63 million — the highest price of any coin in the auctions — the aureus of Domitius Domitianus (c.A.D. 296-297/8) cast a golden glow on Auction 164 and Auction 165, held in Switzerland on May 26, 2026.
